Norton’s Tow Squad in Philadelphia, PA came to us in search of a Century 35-ton Heavy-Duty Wrecker for its growing heavy-duty tow operation. After scouring the globe in search of the perfect chassis at the right price and in the right color, they found the perfect truck — and it was already in their shop! However, the only problem is that the chassis was already mated to a Century 5130 25-ton wrecker.

Norton’s owned this beautiful International LoneStar wrecker for several years. It is an excellent example of a low-miles show-condition truck. However, the Century 5130 heavy-duty wrecker that was mounted on it was undersized for their current business need. Fortunately for the customer, the chassis GVWR, axles, C.A., existing toolboxes, etc. made this truck the perfect candidate for us to upgrade its towing and recovery capacity. After going over the specs, we determined that the truck would be an ideal chassis for a 9055B 50-ton tandem-axle wrecker; an upgrade over the 35-ton model. Our customer was thrilled and so the project began.

Though it was no small task to remount a bigger wrecker on this chassis, it was was no big deal for our team at Bressler’s, Inc.

We dismounted the Century 5130 from the LoneStar chassis, and remounted the customer’s custom painted aluminum toolboxes to the new Century 9055 50-ton wrecker. In the process, the customer also wanted us to add LED Millennium lights along the top rail of the body and put them on a flasher module. We upgraded the light bar, and replaced the original halogen work lights with new Miller Industries OEM Hella LED units. While the center section was removed from the chassis, our body shop refurbished and repainted the frame rails in-house to extend the useful life of this LoneStar and make it look good as new. We also added an updated rear vision system and tied it into the existing chassis head unit. Lastly, we installed extendable rear outriggers in place of the original stiff legs.

Bressler’s, Inc. reinstalled everything on the chassis along with upgrades and delivered this beautiful truck back to the customer looking as good as new, but meeting their needs better than ever.

Century 9055 Heavy-Duty Integrated Wrecker

The 9055 is Century’s largest capacity integrated towing and recovery unit. This unit was configured with a 50-ton, 2 stage recovery boom, and dual 50,000 lb winches. The 9055 is ideal for heavy recovery work along with the ability to tow a wide variety of vehicles from mixers to packers and buses with its 136” of reach.

The Century 9055 platform is available in a 2-stage boom, 3-stage boom, and 3-stage 9055XL boom configuration that offers a hook height of 359″ and 276″ of hydraulic boom extension. For Norton’s Tow Squad, we suggested a 2-stage boom due to the chassis wheelbase and C.B.

The Century 9055 is the world leader in the 50-ton Heavy-Duty Wrecker platform, and is a favorite amongst those of us at Bressler’s, Inc. who have been around them.

9055B (2-Stage)

The Century 9055B features a 2-stage boom and is commonly configured on a tandem-axle or tri-axle chassis. The Century 9055B has a maximum hook height of 259″ and 144″ of hydraulic boom extension.

9055 (3-Stage)

The Century 9055 features a 3-stage boom and is commonly configured on a tandem-tandem or tri-axle chassis. The Century 9055 has a maximum hook height of 299″ and 216″ of hydraulic boom extension.

9055XL

The Century 9055XL features a 3-stage boom and is commonly configured on a tandem-tandem or tri-axle chassis. The Century 9055XL has an impressive maximum hook height of 359″ and 276″ of hydraulic boom extension.
